Coarse Travel

The Art of Coarse Travel by Spike Hughes. First published 1957 by Museum Press. Illustrated is a First Edition.

Almost everything has changed about foreign travel since then, although the behaviour of the British Tourist 40 years ago bears quite a few similarities to those today.

One area that has changed is the quetion of currency restrictions.

The first thing the modern Coarse Traveller will think of is how much currency the Goverment is allowing him to take this year. Sometimes it is as much as £100. Therefore, somehow one must sweat blood, toil and weep in order to lay hands on £100 – not because you are necessarily going to need it, but because you are entitled to it and therefore are jolly well going to take it – and spend it, what’s more.
